About Tyson

If you feel lost in emotional, behavioral, or relational patterns that you can’t seem to change, or if you feel discontented with the way you are living your life and would like help to live differently, then I may be the right person for you. I work with children above age 10, adolescents, and adults addressing a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief. I have particular interests in gender identity, bipolar disorder, and infertility.

I practice Relational Psychodynamic Therapy which takes Relational Psychoanalytic theory and applies it directly to the practice of psychotherapy. My practice is highly influenced by psychoanalysis, existential philosophy, attachment theory, and comic books.

In treatment I try to be aware of the ways things like neurotype, family system and history, cultural context, spirituality, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality impact and inform each of my clients’ lives. I try to explore these things in sessions because I want to invite each person’s entire, complex, messy story of who they are into the therapy relationship.

I take special interest in working with people who are marginalized, sidelined, and disempowered in society, especially people with fewer financial resources. For that reason, I take certain insurances and offer sliding-scale fees options. See the “services” page for more information.

I also provide supervision for pre-licensed clinicians and consultation for licensed early-career clinicians. I take immense delight in supervising and consulting. I am deeply interested in the question of what makes someone a better therapist and I love watching newer clinicians grow into their clinical minds and selves.
